Parrish Bed & Breakfast

771 days ago208 views

Four years ago, the historic Cannon Mansion was turned into the charming Parrish Place Bed & Breakfast, located at 720 East Ashton Avenue. Husband and wife duo Jeff and Karin Gauvin are the owners and innkeepers. The two met working on a cruise ship and are now sharing that hospitality with all the travelers, honeymooners and business guests who come into their B & B.

"People who stay at a bed and breakfast want personalized service and that's something you just don't get at a big hotel," Jeff says.

Parrish Place is all that and so much more. Having managed a B & B in Aspen, Colo., Jeff and Karen wanted to make Parrish Place more of a private experience for their guests. Jeff says many B & Bs are set up for guests to socialize with one another during breakfast and in the common area as they watch television.

"Our guests can expect privacy," Jeff says. "We deliver breakfast to every room each morning and each guest room has its own cable T.V."

That's what's so nice about staying at a B & B; a nice breakfast is always included. At Parrish Place, it's not just any breakfast. Karin is Swedish and the vegetarian breakfast of yogurt, granola, muffins and fruit is very indicative of what you would be served while staying in Scandinavia.

Each one of the five rooms has quite the allure. They're all named after a particular painting by the famous American artist Maxfield Parrish, the namesake of the B & B. Parrish was known for his distinctive hues and unique neo-classical imagery and the rooms capture that very essence.

The mansion was built in 1890 on farmland previously owned by a former LDS prophet, Brigham Young. The mansion has since been renovated with carefully selected period chandeliers to accent the ornate ceilings in many of the rooms. Guests can expect each room to have period furnishings with rich woods and comfortable bedding you want to literally dive into. All the beds are piled high with pillows and a soft down feather duvet to make each stay comfortable and luxurious.

Since the majority of the guests are from out of town, Jeff says they enjoy learning about the history of this area and about the beautiful property the mansion sits on. The home's character also makes it a popular romantic getaway. Locals also find Parrish Place to be a fun spot to book family members visiting from out of town.

"Parrish Place is very comfortable place for your family to come and stay over the holidays or any visit," Jeff says. "Especially when you don't have the space or you don't want to clear out the office."

After a stay at this B & B, staying at a hotel will seem drab and boring. The history and personal touches of Parrish Place will leave you with a feeling of being far removed from the hustle and bustle of life. Whether it's a business stay, leisure or a romantic getaway, Parrish Place Bed & Breakfast is the place to get away and make memories.
