Churchill student takes talent show number to Youtube
Devin Wolfe, a 13-year-old soon-to-be eighth grader at Churchill Junior High recently wowed the crowd at his school’s annual talent show.
After the show, Devin was given the opportunity to team up with local singer-songwriter Peter Breinholt to see what it takes to make a video go viral.
The two musicians met at June Audio in Provo. Breinholt and his band spent the day backing up Devin for a recording of one of Devin’s own songs “Validation Wounds.”
Devin started playing drums when he was 8 years old. By the age of 12, he moved into song writing and playing the guitar. He has taught himself bass guitar and piano.
“I don’t think I had that kind of passion at 13,”Ryan Tilby, one of the musicians working on the project said. “This guy is in touch with music much older than he is.”
“Devin brought six or seven of his own original songs,” studio producer, Scott Wiley said. “We were all pretty impressed.”
After 12 hours in the studio, with the project finally completed, the music video for “Validation Wounds” was posted on YouTube May 24.
Breinholt can identify with Devin, having taught himself to play guitar and drums. He also began writing his own music at age 11. He has been part of the local music scene since the early 90s when he began playing in local restaurants and coffee houses as a college student here in Utah.
He has since recorded and performed in venues such as Robert Redford’s Sundance Eccles Amphitheater and Utah Symphony as well as the with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
At press time, Devin’s video has had more than 14,600 hits. His Facebook profile states that he aspires to be a professional musician (which is a more mature way of saying “rock star”).
