
Local elementary schools get new principals
The students at Rosecrest and Millcreek Elementary Schools will return to school under with new principals. Former principal at Millcreek Elementary, Tina West is moving to Rosecrest Elementary to fill the position left by retiring Principal Dr. Julianne Clarke. Allison Banks will take over at Millcreek Elementary.
After serving as principal at Millcreek Elementary for three years, West is sad to be leaving but is excited to be working with the faculty and PTA at Rosecrest.
“I have been so impressed with level of involvement and enthusiasm I have already seen from the PTA,” West said.
Before coming to Millcreek, West served as assistant principal at both Valley Crest and Beehive Elementary. She began her teaching career teaching fifth grade at Calvin Smith Elementary. She has been with Granite School District for 17 years.
West is originally from California but has lived in Utah since 1994. She has a bachelor’s degree from Southern Utah University and a master’s from Cal State Fullerton. She is married with two teenage sons.
Allison Banks is coming to Millcreek from Beehive Elementary where she was assistant principal. She has also served as assistant principal at Orchard Elementary and taught sixth grade at East Midvale Elementary in Jordan School District.
She is looking forward to working with the Spanish dual immersion program that is available to students at Millcreek. “The community has really rallied around this program, and I am excited with the direction we are headed,” Banks said.
A native of Utah, Banks has a bachelor’s degree from Utah State and a master’s from Southern Utah University. She is married with three daughters.
Banks is a third-generation educator. Her mother and maternal grandmother both taught school. In keeping with family tradition, she is proud to say that her daughter is following in their as a teacher.
