
Skyline drama students take audiences ‘Into the Woods’
Stephen Sondheim’s famous musical of fairytales gone awry will be presented by the Skyline ihg School drama department Nov. 17, 18, 19 and 21.
The production intertwines the plots of several Brothers Grimm fairytales. Taylor Ann Harmon plays a wicked witch who has placed a curse on a baker and his wife, played by Christian Hales and Anna Romney, hindering their quest to begin a family. To break the spell, the couple must venture into the woods and retrieve ingredients for a magic potion.
On the journey, they encounter Cinderella played by Kate Hales, Little Red Riding Hood (Ali Wood) and the wolf (Max Hustalin), and even Jack (Zac Adamson) and his beanstalk. The plot is thickened by the antics of a mean giant.
The lives of these beloved characters weave together in unexpected ways as they explore the consequences of wishes and quests and learn lessons about growing up and responsibility.
Skyline drama teacher Courtney Jenson will direct the production with musical direction by Jay Gunderson and orchestra direction by Adam Larson.
Performances are at 7p.m. in the Skyline auditorium. Advanced ticket prices are $5 for students, $7 for adults and are available from theatre students, cast members or at the school bookstore. The day of the show they can be purchased at the door for $6 for students and $8 for adults. Skyline is located at 3251 East 3760 South.
The original production debuted on Broadway in 1987 and won several Tony Awards including best score.
