Local residents have several opportunities to enjoy the season through music with some upcoming concerts given by both Olympus and Skyline high schools.

On Dec. 19, Skyline’s band and percussion sections will perform a variety of holiday favorites at 7 p.m., with Skyline music director Adam Larson conducting. The following night, also at 7 p.m., he will showcase his orchestra. Vocal director Jay Gundersen will lead several numbers from a variety of musical groups.

Also on Dec. 20 at 7 p.m., the Olympus band, orchestra and vocal groups will perform numbers from “The Nutcracker,” a Rimsky-Korsakov Christmas Eve Suite and a sing-in of Handel’s “Messiah” with full audience participation.

Leading the Olympus musical groups will be vocal director Vicki Belknap and instrumental director Micah Fleming.

All performances are free of charge and will be held in the respective school’s auditorium. Olympus is located at 4055 South 2300 East. Skyline High is 3251 East 3760 South.
