Upland Terrace Elementary receives cash donation from Smith’s
Each year for the past 11 years, Smith’s Food and Drug Stores has donated $1 million to schools in its multi-state operating area.
This year, of that $1 million, Upland Terrace Elementary has received $7,633. The contribution is part of Smith’s Earn and Learn program. Last year the school received $5,017.
“Students need every opportunity to become members of an educated work force capable of meeting the world’s future challenges,” Smith’s president Mark Tuffin said in a press release. “Smith’s Earn and Learn donations have made a significant impact for the betterment of schools in Utah over these past 11 years.”
The money is given to the school without restrictions, and the school may select the most appropriate use of the gift. Administration at Upland Terrace turned the check over to the PTA, which used the money to purchase textbooks and help fund field trips.
“This money really helps us do a lot of things we would not normally be able to do,” PTA President Holly Brain said. “We were happy with the check, but there is more we could do if more people linked their card to raise money for Upland Terrace.”
Smith’s customers wishing to support the Earn and Learn program link their Smith’s rewards card to the school of their choice, either by logging on to their Smith’s account or with the help of a store checker. Each time the rewards card is used for a purchase at Smith’s, the school earns money.
