Raimund Goeckeritz, a Millcreek resident, was recently awarded the prestigious Americanism Medal and certificate from the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

The Princess Timpanogos Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution recommended Goeckeritz for this award because of his lifelong contributions to his community.  The Americanism Medal is only given to persons who were born outside of the U.S., became a U.S. citizen, and contributed to American society in exceptional ways.

Raimund escaped from communist East Germany in 1956.    He was part of Hitler's youth group.  He served in the U.S. Army in Korea, 1959-62, before he was even a citizen of this country. He became a citizen in 1965.

Very active in the LDS Church, he served as a missionary in Austria from 1962 to 1964.  He has held responsible positions in his church over his lifetime.  He served as bishop twice and has been a youth leader as scoutmaster for many years.

His profession was automobile mechanic.  He realized the American dream by founding his own successful business, Millcreek Garage, specializing in Volkswagen repair.  He is now retired.

“This man is amazing and is a good example to others with his lifetime of service to his community,” Frances Merrill, Princess Timpanogos Chapter regent said.
