Aimee McConkie, who has been a Canyon Rim Citizens' Association council member for the past seven and a half years, has resigned.

She resigned in November due to a move which took her out of the Canyon Rim boundaries.

“I have served with many great leaders who have a passion for this community,'” McConkie said.

McConkie served as CRCA secretary for three years under Chair Rita Lund. When Lund took a position with Salt Lake County as an eastside representative, McConkie was voted in as chair. She served until 2011, then stepped down to vice chair during a10-month transition.

“It has been amazing working with Aimee these past few years. She has such commitment to Canyon Rim,” Derrek Sorensen, CRCA chair, said.

During McConkie’s term as C RCA secretary, she was influential in organizing the Venture Outdoor Festival. The annual festival promotes community health and well being. McConkie expects to stay involved with the festival since she will be living on Oakwood Street in East Millcreek.

McConkie has participated on the township events committee and the communications committee for the township newsletter and website. She will continue to be involved on these committees.

While living in Minnesota, McConkie said she saw a great model for a community center with shared services. She brought the idea to Millcreek and was in on the groundwork for the Zoo, Arts and Parks application for the new Millcreek Community Center with Lund and Bev Uipi, the new senior center supervisor.

“Utilizing shared services and space encourages the community environment,” McConkie said.

McConkie worked extensively with Salt Lake County government officials to provide a safe, livable and cooperative community environment for residents and business owners of Canyon Rim. She has seen this community evolve with a sense of identity that continues to grow. she said.

An advocate for the Millcreek Community Market, which she believes helps to create a sense of belonging and cooperative effort among the community, McConkie will continue to promote this along with founder Amber DeBirk.

She supported Canyon Rim Academy when it became a charter school. The school, as well as the LDS church, have been very cooperative with events held at Canyon Rim Park, she said.

“I want to thank the Canyon Rim residents and the community council for their support, and I encourage others to get involved in the community,” McConkie said.

She plans to take some time off to spend with her new daughter, born in December, before getting further involved in the East Millcreek community.
