
Eagle swim team undefeated in early competition
The Skyline swim team blasted its way through the first half of the season, racking up a perfect record in wins over Park City Nov. 1, Riverton Nov. 3, Alta Nov. 8, Cottonwood Nov. 15, Box Elder Nov. 17 and Brighton Nov. 22. The Eagles also came out on top in the Pepsi Invitational at Mt. Crest Nov. 13, defeating Mt. Crest, Sky View, Weber and Davis.
Both the boys and girls teams have dominated their competition and are undefeated Team combined scores were doubled or nearly so in many meets. The only exception was the Brighton meet, or “Battle of the Paddle” competition, with Skyline squeaking out the win 178-161 in combined scores, the men winning 92-78 and the women by a mere 86-83 points.
Swimmers with leading times for the Eagles women’s team include senior Natalie Bennion in the 50-, 100- and 200-yard freestyle event; sophomore Audrey Miller in the 500-free; freshman Alicia Dibble in the 50- and 100- backstroke; and sophomore Lillian Moore in the 100- breaststroke, 100- butterfly and 200- individual medley.
For the men’s team, leading swimmers are junior David Amirkhanashvili in the 50- free, senior Travis Norseth in the 100- fly, 100- and 200- free and 50- back; sophomore James Sorenson in the 500- free; Scott Sorenson in the 100- back and 20- IM; and sophomore Steven Deng in the 100- breast.
Leading the region as well are Smith, with a time of 54.65 in the 100- back, and Norseth, with 53.73 in the 100- fly.
Skyline faced West Lake and Herriman Nov. 30 and hosted Murray Dec. 8. They will meet Hillcrest at home Dec. 14 and compete in the Granite District Championships at the West Valley Family Center Dec. 16 before breaking for the winter moratorium.
