Brighton's porcupine: The rest of the story

112 days ago1408 views

Remember the porcupine that wandered onto Brighton's sun deck on New Year's Day? Here's the end of the story. (Scroll down to see the original story.) That prickley critter created quite a stir as it waddled beneath the tables. Everybody enjoyed the wildlife show -- except the restaurant manager.

On warm days, the doors to the cafeteria were open and the manager feared that Mr. Porcupine would waddle inside and make himself at home. He had already visited the sun deck on several days and nibbled at bits that dropped to the deck: sandwich scraps, a french fry or two, and other non-porcupine fare. They say that a "fed wild animal is a dead wild animal."

So on New Year's evening, after the skiers and boarders left the sun deck, the Brighton crew scuttled the critter into a garbage can and toted him off to a remote portion of the mountain and released him unharmed.

No more freeloading. Go find your own food. Enjoy your new home, Mr. Porcupine!
